Shantimayi, my first and perhaps last teacher on my odyssey to spiritual awakening, addressed my recent inquiry: "After extinction of personal suffering, what is next?" Each word of that question was systematically dismantled in a 45 minute audio transmission to her global sangha. But it was also affirmed. At one point she said that believing suffering could become extinct was to look into a mirror of delusion. In another she referred to the question as "not mature." However she said that the one asking the question was "intellectual" but had a "very open heart." It was the kind of bashing combined with affirmation that I've come to expect from her over the years since 1997, the kind I've learned to value as it always, always takes me deeper. However at the end of the broadcast she said in a quiet voice: "You have been blessed. Now go and spread your blessings to all others."
